Existing Border Management and Security

Border management, controls and security in Turkey are carried out by;

• Land Forces General Command,
• Gendarmerie General Command,
• Coast Guard General Command,
• Turkish National Police,
• Customs Enforcement.

Duties related to entry and exit of the persons at border crossing points and matters relating to the foreigners are performed by the Turkish National Police.

Duties of Turkish National Police  at the Borders

• Checking  the travel documents and performing legal procedures when there is an offense,
• Checking the visas of the aliens,
• Completing the deportation procedures for the aliens to be deported,
• Carrying out the necessary procedures concerning the admission of the  immigrants,  
• Implementing the procedures for the entry of the Turkish citizens deported from other countries,
• Completing the procedures for inadmissible passengers,
• Performing criminal investigations,
• Ensuring the contact of the asylum-seekers with the police in charge of the aliens,
• Taking measures to prevent the entrance of weapons, explosives, and goods,
• Preventing illegal entry and exit,
• Performing general law enforcement duties.
