FOREIGN RELATIONS DEPARTMENT Foreign Relations Department was established under the Office of the General Director in 1981 and later became a department in 1982. The Department Regulation has been revised several times up to its present form after its first preparation on June 26, 2006 so as to restructure the department to conduct more effective foreign relations. The revisions of the regulation have been made in accordance with the Article 16 on 'Turkish National Police Foreign Relations Department, Establishment, Duty and Working Regulation’ of the Law no. 3201 on Police Organization. Foreign Relations Department is composed of 9 Divisions:
International activities of PKK have been prevented on the legal basis thanks to the bilateral and multilateral agreements and protocols signed by foreign police organizations and relevant international organizations. Besides extradition proceedings for the leaders of organized crime groups have been concluded. In the harmonization process of Turkey to the EU and under the light of the provisions of Progress Reports, coordination and monitoring activities have been conducted among the units of the Turkish National Police and between the Turkish National Police and other institutions and organizations in the fields of particularly ‘Political Criteria', Justice, Freedom and Security’ and ‘Integration with Acquis Communitaire’, ‘EU Projects’ and ‘Cooperation with EU Institutions and Organizations’. In order to adapt themselves to developing and changing conditions of the combat against crimes, observe successful practices of correlated countries on-site, develop visions of the personnel, and improve the fighting techniques by discussing; members of TNP attend meetings, visits and seminars on security, terrorism, transnational organized crime, narcotics, smuggling, and criminalist matters held abroad and share their experiences with related units through Foreign Relations Department.
